SB 1118 is an abolitionist bill that if passed into law would criminalize ALL forms of abortion whether they be chemical or surgical. SB 1118 declares that the taking of the life of a human being from time zero of their existence is murder. SB 1118 makes no distinction of the age of the human being or the circumstances of their conception. SB 1118 is consistent with God’s word that all human beings are made in the image of God. SB 1118 is consistent with the constitution of the United States that declares that all human beings are created equal and have the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness and that those rights are not to be withheld without due process.
That being clear and stated, it is sad and bizarre that the most rabid opponents of the bill are pro-life lobbyists and pro-life legislators.
The following video illustrates this well as Tony Lauinger of National Right to Life and Oklahomans for Life is interviewed about why he opposes SB 1118. In a nutshell, the opposition to the bill is that Mr. Lauinger assumes that because the Supreme Court has declared abortion as a right, then states like Oklahoma are prohibited from passing laws that agree with the fact that abortion is murder and ought to be criminalized. Mr. Lauinger assumes that there is to be no defiance from the state of Oklahoma even though he agrees that the the Supreme Court is dead wrong.
Mr. Lauinger also believes that Christians in the public square are to stick to secular arguments and leave out the “religious” ones because most people do not agree with our “religious” views. In other words, Mr. Lauinger believes that the best way to fight abortion in our culture is to not declare the following truths, 1. Abortion is murder and therefore sin OR 2. That the Gospel of Jesus Christ is the only answer to sin. In Mr. Lauinger’s view, these foundational truths are not to be the focus of our message.
Listen to this interview of Tony Lauinger by Jeff Durbin of Apologia Radio and remember that Mr. Lauinger is a prominent pro-life leader and represents the largest pro-life organization in the country, and he is located in what is arguably the most pro-life state in the nation, and he and the organization he represents has been at their craft since 1973. In other words, this isn’t some fringe person. This is mainstream pro-life-ism.
