There is no conflict with obedience to Christ in loving our neighbors and obedience to Christ in sharing the Good News. Some want to say that fighting abortion is a separate thing from leading people to Christ. Or they will even say that you can’t do one and the other. We say that loving our neighbors, especially those being oppressed, is not only NOT in conflict with evangelism, but is in harmony with it. That is, how can we rightly say we will lead people to Christ, IF we are ignoring the least of these amongst us? What example of Christ are we to a lost and dying world, if we neglect the most needy around us?
This is not an either-or thing but rather it is a both-and thing. And in fact I would argue it is a both-and by necessity.
Abortion is human sacrifice and the enemy of our souls cherishes it. Human sacrifice is fuel for the spiritual forces of darkness and abolitionists will attack there.
People who have had abortions or paid for one or were complicit in some way with the death of a baby, will only find forgiveness through repentance and forgiveness in Christ. We speak the truth of abortion as murder which is sin. And we speak the truth of the only way to find redemption from that sin.
Women who are so upset about abortion that they act out need compassion and their only hope is in Christ. We try to help them see Who is their only hope for their brokenness.
We will love our neighbors, both born and pre-born, by proclaiming the truth of what abortion is and the truth of Gospel of Jesus Christ.
The answer to the question in the title of this post is, “No”. And not only is fighting abortion and sharing the Gospel in harmony, but you will find many times, such as what you see in this video, you will get more opportunities to share the Gospel than you bargained for.
